2. Day in the life
What do we do all day? We are here working full time while travelling, so it's not all fun every day. I thought it'd be interesting to record a pretty average day of our time here: in this case, last Thursday April 13th.
8am - Wake up
We usually get up around 8-10am here. Keep in mind throughout this that Pacific time, where my work is and our normal time zone in Seattle, is one hour behind Belize. Most of our scheduling is based around that and (attempting) to stay on roughly a 9-5 work day, so 10-6 here.
9am - yoga on the beach
Each Thursday we've been loving yoga on the beach at a place called Moon Bar near us. It's perfect because it's 8am Pacific time right before work. For $35 we get an hour practice right on the sand in front of the ocean with the sound of the waves and birds. Sometimes the local dogs join us. Afterwards, iced coffee and sausage egg breakfast wraps are served on homemade tortillas. It's one of the best ways to start our day and we can be back around 10:30 (9:30am Pacfic)
10am - 12pm - work
As our coworkers start getting up and at 'em we start working and joining various meetings. With high speed wi-fi it's no trouble at all. I tend to be most productive before and after lunch, especially after morning yoga, so I try to get most of my work done now.
12pm - lunch
We've been enjoying the organic grind with fresh island fruit and salads. The great thing about totally switching up your routine with travel like this is the chance to reset your habits from square one and be very intentional about what you eat and how you exercise. It's not often you get to totally restart a pantry and fridge. That and the local fruit and vegetable stands make it easy to have delicious high protein salads each day.
1:30pm - 4pm - Work?
After lunch is the bulk of our meetings and the early afternoon back home. I find at least for my job that most meetings fall in this slot for the pre-lunch west coast and afternoon east coast overlap. Ideally I start to wrap up most projects and tasks during this time. Some days we'll find a beach club or pool with wi-fi and work there if I don't have many meetings, where we'll usually get all of the sun to ourselves on week days.
4pm - 6pm - Gym
Each Tuesday and Thursday we've set the habit of heading into San Pedro town about 35 minutes south to hit the local gym. We've been really enjoying The Train Station just south of the bridge, which is equipped with almost all the free weights you could want as well as cardio machines and bikes. Including driving time, we try to spend 45 minutes to an hour working. The gym has wi-fi so I can still be online and field Slack messages or calls if needed. The questionable EDM remixes of 80s songs gets mostly blocked by noise cancellation.
6pm - 10pm - happy hour and trivia
After the gym we head to happy hour, dinner, and trivia on Thursday's. This week we first hit up Pur for their heated saltwater pool, happy hour, loaded nachos, and adult's only bliss. Continuing north, we continue our new weekly tradition of Thursday trivia at The Truck Stop. This awesome food truck court / beer garden / pool / bar hosts weekly trivia with a US$2.50 buy-in as well as live reggae music, New Haven style pizza, Thai food, Birria tacos, beers on tap, and sunset views over the lagoon. In short it's heaven on earth. We haven't won yet but it's only a matter of time.
10pm - call it a day
After trivia we head out of The Truck Stop to the fading sounds of the band's set accompanied by the tourists who have had a little too much fun. Once the hula hoops come out we know it's about time to head home. We race along the bumpy empty roads through the jungle to our temporary home and tuck in for another day of sun, looking forward to the weekend.
